Cloud Technology Terms and definitions, VPS Servers and Virtual Machines

Modern servers have several logical processors called cores. We use the last generation of Intel(r) Xeon(r) processors and thanks to the technological improvements, these are up to 15% faster than the previous ones. We always have available processor cores to be able to meet the demand for additional processor capacity. The services are not restarted when the number of processors is increased.

Any logical processor provided for use by a server or servers corresponds to an actually existing logical core of a physical server from the platform. The more cores a processor has and the higher its rated clock rate is, the more calculations the processor will perform per unit of time.

  1. The central processing unit (CPU) is the "brain” of the computer system that implements the instructions and handles the data. The CPU performs a set of commands generated logically by electronic circuits. Essential features are:
    • core clock rate (GHz);
    • number of processor cores;
    • operating rate of the I/O channels and the memory;
    • sizes and types of the cache memories;
  1.  RAM (random-access memory) is a fast operating memory, with which the processor exchanges data without the mediation of any other devices. RAM is measured in MB (megabytes)/GB (gigabytes). In the service context, RAM is understood as the amount of allocated operating memory provided for use by a server/servers. It corresponds to an actually allocated physical memory by a physical server from the platform. We use the last generation of DDR4 2400MHz memories. They are up to 25% faster than the previous generations. We always have available memory to be able to meet the demand for additional amounts. The services are not restarted when the amount of RAM is increased or decreased.
  1. SSD (solid-state drive) is the successor to the hard disk drive (HDD). This is nonvolatile computer memory based on the technology of flash memories, which considerably increases the operating speed. The absence of moving parts allows a virtually instant access to any piece of information. Measured in gigabytes and the term should be understood as the amount of disk space of SSD type. It corresponds to an actually existing disk space of physical servers from the platform. We use the latest generations of SSD in failproof RAID configurations. This allows us to guarantee high performance in IOPS. We always have available SSD amounts to be able to meet the demand for additional disk space. The services are not restarted when the disk space is increased or upon transfer from HDD to SSD or vice versa.
  1. Huge disk arrays (HDD) - often presented in the form of a RAID array. A RAID array is a group of interlinked drives playing the role of a single integral logical drive. They are connected to dedicated RAID hardware controller(s).
  1. IPv4 addresses - their purpose is to allow addressing of the information that is sent over the network. In this context, the term should be understood as publicly available IP addresses of version 4, actually provided for use by a server. They are measured in a number.
  1. VPS "Virtual server" - each virtual server uses its own operating system that is allocated to be used by a client. The virtual server represents a dedicated part of the computing resource of the platform that presented as a separate server by the software.
  1. UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) - Any device in the server configuration needs power to function. In the event of a power failure in the central power supply, the UPS delivers instantaneous power without interrupting, stopping or restarting the server components. The continuous operation of Abilix Soft virtual machines is secured with duplicated UPS devices.
  1. Domain (Name, Area) - is part of naming and addressing on the global network. The unique domain name is used to address the Internet and to call up the relevant network resources, such as websites, mailing and other servers. Simply put, the domain is the name of your website. And do you know that all Abilix Soft customers get a free domain.
  1. Hosting - One of the most popular types of hosting is web hosting. Internet hosting is a server with dedicated or shared parameters and a space where various services can be deployed and used as web hosting for websites and online stores, e-mail hosting, file server and more.
  1. SSL certificate (Secure Socket Layer certificate) - must be installed and associated with a specific site. A valid SSL certificate provides additional security for online visitors and customers on a site by encrypting the link to data sharing between the user and the site. This type of data encryption protects them against malicious copying, misuse of confidential information and leakage of personal data. Each Abilix Soft client receives a free SSL certificate.
  1. Migration - Server migration is the process of moving your projects, websites, mail or file server, ERP system or accounting software from one server to another. Abilix Soft's professional approach to migration guarantees minimal downtime. All Abilix Soft customers get free migration.
  1. Monitoring - Server monitoring is a work with a variety of systems that track real-time basic client server parameters to capture server load, errors and bad performance and alert in a timely manner to prevent server resource depletion or atypical activity. The server of each Abilix Soft client is automatically attached to free monitoring systems.
  1. Data Center - is a high-end, specialized building with a unique purpose - to host server equipment, providing high levels of armed security and strictly controlled access; reliable power supplies and spare as needed; Internet connectivity from multiple providers using different underground routes; professional air conditioning, specialized fire and earthquake protection and many other measures related to the smooth operation of the equipment and the professional care of the servers.
